Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness is a little different for OpenStax textbooks in that it was produced through a collaborative publishing agreement with the Bill of Rights Institute and published exclusively inside the OpenStax Tutor platform.

Accessing the text:
In order to access the book, you will need an instructor verified account or a student enrollment link to access the OpenStax Tutor platform. Visit to learn more.

Please Note: At this time, OpenStax Tutor is only available to instructors and students at high schools and 2- and 4-year institutions in the United States.  Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer OpenStax Tutor to middle school, corporate, or international users at this time.

Browse the Book:
To examine the textbook in OpenStax Tutor, we recommend opening the book under "Preview Courses." Inside the preview course, there is a "Browse the Book" button that will take you to the online text.

The course includes links to “Handouts” to supplement the content. The Handouts are hosted in Google Drive. Follow these steps to access and/or make a copy of the Handouts:
  1. Open the link provided text
  2. Click “Open with Google Docs” at the top. Please note, you must be logged into a Google account for this option to appear.
